How Angels Gate Hi-Railers got started
Our club was founded in December, 1995. It grew out of a search by members of the Valley Toy Train Club’s “Tinplate Trackers” O-gauge modular group who were looking for a permanent layout site. Several vacant buildings were discovered at the Fort MacArthur military base, in Angels Gate Park in San Pedro.
The City of Los Angeles Department of Recreation & Parks granted us a Right of Entry in February, 1996. Our members rehabilitated the building, including new wiring, painting, lighting, and flooring. After many volunteer hours we now have a working layout – and we’re still growing!
Angels Gate Hi-Railers Model Railroad Club promotes the hobby of O-gauge model railroading, is involved with the community, and is a place to enjoy running our trains.
One of our purposes is to get kids interested in model trains at a young age to ensure model railroading continues as “the world’s greatest hobby.”
Angels Gate Hi-Railers Model Railroad Club was incorporated as a public benefit non-profit corporation under the laws of the State of California on March 6, 2009, and the By-Laws approved by the membership.
